Trigeminal Neuralgia

The trigeminal nerve is the nerve that is in the area of the face that transmits feeling and other sensations to and from the brain. One of the more painful conditions that may be experienced by humans is a difficulty with that nerve, known as trigeminal neuralgia. Many individuals who suffer from this difficulty experienced sharp or stabbing pains in the area of the face. It can also lead to additional pain that is sometimes intense when anything touches the mouth or the face.

Fortunately, this condition is somewhat rare and only one in approximately 20,000 individuals suffer from it. If you have a difficulty with trigeminal neuralgia, it may be treated in a number of different ways but your doctor will need to give you a thorough examination to determine which treatment is the best. Some of the common treatments that are available for this condition include injections, medications and at times, surgery.
